white
These white wines are generally arranged from lightest to more full bodied.
You can often find wines that are great values from lesser known regions or those made from lesser known grapes. Many consumers won't buy a wine if they can't pronounce it!
Kung Fu Girl Riesling
$12.99 Total Wine (also available at many grocery stores)
This is a dry Riesling. When winemaker Charles Smith brought take out Chinese food home, he realized that he didn’t have a wine to go with it. So, he made one.
Hermes Moschofilero
$14.99 Total Wine
Floral, crisp wine made from a native Greek grape. It's not entirely different from gewurztraminer, but it tends to have higher acidity. A perfect wine for pork and seafood dishes
Dr. Loosen "Dr. L" Riesling
$13.99 Total Wine (also available at many grocery stores)
This is not a sweet wine, but it does have some residual sugar. It's an easy drinking wine that pairs beautifully with bratwurst.
Chateau Ste Michelle Gewurztraminer
$9.99 Total Wine (also available at many grocery stores)
Chateau Ste Michelle is the oldest winery in Washinton state. Gewurztraminer is an aromatic grape that grows in cooler climates. It is floral and has a signature lychee aroma and taste. Very food friendly, but works especially well with Indian and Asian food.
Vignobles Lacheteau
Touraine Sauvignon Blanc
$6.99 Trader Joe's
I think that this wine is one of the best values available right now! It is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, and it is from Touraine, which is in the Loire Valley. If somebody tells you that they like Sancerre, let them try this. Vignobles Lacheteau is a négociant; they buy grapes from various sources and make the wine. They also make excellent Vouvray.
Latitud 42 Blanco
$12.99 Total Wine
This wine is made from viura (also called macabeo), which is one of the grapes used for Cava. It has been aged in oak, but the oak is not overwhelming. This wine is a bit of a unicorn. It pairs beautifully with gumbo, which is traditionally a difficult pairing.
