Apple Crisp
Apple Crisp
The dessert is vegan and gluten-free and, most importantly, absolutely delicious. If you don’t follow a vegan diet, then you can use dark brown sugar in place of the organic brown sugar and butter in place of the butter substitute.
apple filling
4 Granny Smith apples
3/4 cup organic brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cinnamon stick
topping
1 cup gluten-free oats
1/4 cup vegan butter substitute, softened
1/2 cup organic brown sugar
1/2 cup walnut pieces
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Prepare the apples. Core the apples. Then slice each apple into 8 slices. Chop each slice into 4 pieces. (You don’t have to peel the apples.)
Combine all of the ingredients for the apple filling in a large pot. Cook over medium-low heat until the apples are soft, about 15 minutes. Be sure to stir constantly when it starts heating. When the apples are done, you’ll have a thin caramel at the bottom of the pot. Set the apples aside.
Make the topping. Combine all of the ingredients for the topping in a medium bowl. Massage the ingredients until they are well combined.
Discard the cinnamon stick. Divide the apples among 8 one cup ramekins. Top each with a portion of the topping.
Bake for 15-20 minutes.
